SUMMARY OF INCIDENT: On 04/25/2025 at 1730 hours, Deputy Garces was patrolling Barton-Orleans Rd when he observed a vehicle speeding. When the traffic stop was conducted, Deputy Garces observed signs of impairment on the operator and also learned that his license was criminally suspended. At the conclusion of sobriety tests, the operator was arrested and processed for DUI/DLS prior to his release.

Description: On 05/02/2025, Deputy Garces responded to a report of a theft that occurred at the Maplefields of Orleans Village in Barton. Investigation revealed that on this date Travis Dopp walked into the store and left with merchandise without paying for it. Dopp was later located and cited for this offense.

Description: On 05/08/2025 at 1710 hours, Deputies checked on a suspicious vehicle in the Irasburg commons. Investigation revealed that the operator, Jonathan Williams had a warrant for his arrest and he also showed signs of impairment. Williams was arrested for further investigation and subsequently refused an evidentiary toxicology test after a court ordered search warrant.

Description:
On 05/24/2025 at approximately 0730 hours, Deputy David Garces patrolled Route 101 in the town of Troy when he observed a vehicle traveling at speeds over 84 mph in a 50 mph zone. Deputy Garces conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and also learned that the operator did not have a driver's license. The operator was charged for driving at criminal speeds without a license.

Description:
On 05/26/2025 at 1535 hours, the Orleans County Sheriff's Department was notified by an off duty officer about an erratic operator on Route 5 in Derby driving towards Newport. With the assistance of Newport PD officers, the operator was stopped and checked for sobriety by Deputies. The operator was subsequently arrested and processed for DUI Drugs at the Sheriff's Office, prior to his release.

SUMMARY OF INCIDENT: On 03/10/2025 Deputy Cota assisted an elderly man who was attempting to flag vehicles down in the middle of Willoughby Ave in the village of Orleans. Upon talking to the man, he told her that Jason Willey was in his house and wanted him gone. Deputy Cota called for Deputy Locke and gave the man a courtesy ride to his apartment on Church St in the village of Orleans. While on their way it was confirmed that Willey had an active state warrant and was considered armed and dangerous. When they got there the man let both deputies into his residence. Upon entering, the deputies saw two females passed out on the couches in the living room and Willey in the hallway. Willey was told to put his hands behind his back but instead, he ran and locked himself in the bathroom and told the deputies he had a weapon. The deputies called for backup and officers from Newport PD and the Vermont State Police arrived on scene a short time later. The females were woken up and led from the residence. One was identified as Taylor Coull who had two active state warrants. Coull was taken into custody. After a period of time VSP was able to negotiate Willey out of the barricaded room peacefully without further incident and he was taken into custody. Both parties were transported to the Northern State Correctional Facility pending their court dates the next day.

Upon further investigation it was discovered that Aaron Chapdelaine had assaulted a family member earlier that morning. Chapdelaine was arrested later that evening and processed at the Orleans County Sheriff’s Department before being released on conditions.

SUMMARY OF INCIDENT: On 04/09/2025 while on duty for the Orleans County Sheriff’s Department, Deputy Cota received a report of Benjamin Burritt harassing the female victim through text message. While reviewing the messages, Deputy Cota recognized that they were sent with the intent to intimidate, harass, or annoy the recipient, meeting the statute for Disturbing peace by use of telephone or other electronic communications. Upon further investigation, two time stamped pictures of Burritt with alcoholic beverages were also discovered, violating his conditions of release. On 04/11/2025, Burritt was given a citation to appear in court to answer for the above offenses.
