Sheriff Jennifer Harlow reports the arrest of a Juvenile after the incident described below.

CITY, STATE OF RESIDENCE: Newport Center, VT
SUMMARY OF INCIDENT: On 10/17/2025 while on duty for the Orleans County Sheriff’s Department. Deputy Battista, at approximately 2300 hours, was conducting a stationary speed enforcement on South Barton Rd in the town of Barton. Deputy Battista observed a vehicle traveling at 79 MPH in a 40 MPH posted zone utilizing Lidar. Deputy Battista initiated a traffic stop and the operator was identified by a Vermont Photo Driver’s License. Deputy Battista escorted the juvenile to his residence in Newport Center where a parent/guardian had to sign for the juvenile citation that was issued.
The juvenile operator is allegedly linked to multiple recent complaints the Orleans County Sheriff’s Department has received. The complaints are regarding speeding in the town of Newport Center on the roadways of Lake Rd and Vance Hill Rd.
